Dutch artist Frank Halmans brings new meaning to the phrase “house cleaning” with his miniature homes inside functioning vacuum cleaners.
Major themes in Halmans’ art are the domestic world and the transition from public to private. The “Hoover Buildings” project plays with ideas of clutter and sanctuary; the insanely detailed home interiors collect dust and debris when the machines are turned on. The more you vacuum, the dirtier these houses get.
