Fantasy urban planning for the vertically obsessed: artist Mark Lascelles Thornton is drafting a city composed of the world’s best skyscraper hits. “The Happiness Machine” collects high-rises from eight metropolises, including New York, Chicago, London, Shanghai and Taipei, creating a skyline that’s simply nuts. The Sears Tower and Taipei 101 bookend the imaginary city, with One World Trade Center, the Gherkin and the Shard occupying the center.
Architizer called Thornton’s project “both thrilling and disheartening, with urban disjunction taken to perverse extremes.” Take a look at the drawings below and see if he missed any skyscrapers. You can also check out more of Thornton’s amazingly detailed illustrations at his Tumblr.
