The above short film, “Junk King,” is about a Texas man who designed and built a “cathedral” made entirely out of salvaged material.

Vince Hannemann’s 33-foot-high, 60-tonne “Cathedral of Junk” is a popular attraction in Austin, Texas, but in 2010 the city closed the structure claiming it was unsafe and demanded it be brought up to code.

According to Inhabitat, this lead to a massive volunteer effort to remove nearly four tons of materials so Hannemann could get the approval and proper permits from the city, which he eventually did. This is Colossal reports that it took over seven months and hundreds of volunteers to get the job done.

Hannemann is now back to expanding the project which he first started back in 1989.
