Here`s something for both art lovers and home buyers to get excited about: Developer Qualex-Landmark announced today that an original artwork by novelist, visual artist and designer Douglas Coupland has been commissioned for their new downtown Calgary condo project, Mark on 10th.
The piece will be an interpretation of Calgary in the 21st century, and when it’s unveiled in January 2013, will become Alberta’s first large-scale Coupland artwork.
The internationally renowned Coupland has had his work published in 30 countries and translated into 22 languages. He has published a collection of short stories, seven nonfiction books, a number of screenplays for film and television, and thirteen novels, including his first: Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture.
“We are excited to announce that Douglas Coupland is creating artwork for Mark on 10th,” says Roger Navabi, Qualex-Landmark president. “Commissioning an artist of his stature to create an art piece for Mark on 10th enables Qualex-Landmark to play a role in developing the emerging Design District that is energizing this area of Calgary’s downtown.”
And Coupland certainly has a knack for creating the perfect piece for a particular space. His previous works include:
Mark on 10th, located at the corner of 8th Street and 10th Avenue SW, is Qualex-Landmark‘s fifth high-profile residential development in Calgary’s Beltline neighbourhood. The development is being constructed as a mixed-use high-rise tower offering one and two bedroom homes starting from the low $200,000’s in a location that epitomizes urban living thanks to its proximity to downtown, universities, transit and Calgary’s many entertainment districts.
With a rooftop fitness club and lounge (great for taking in views of downtown and the surrounding mountains), an expansive urban garden on the third floor podium, and several specialty retail services, Mark on 10th‘s own amenities are just as exciting and unique as its surroundings.
