Great things come in small packages – homes included, which is why developer Tien Sher is looking to build one of the country’s smallest condominium developments in Surrey, B.C.

According to an article in the Metro, the plan is to put 56 micro-lofts between 290-square-feet and 635-square feet in the four-storey Balance Condos development slated for a site near the Gateway SkyTrain station on 108th Ave.

Tien Sher president Charan Sethi told the Metro he was inspired to build small after Vancouver’s Burns Block micro-lofts were so enthusiastically snatched up earlier this year.

“I come from a working class family,” Charan Sethi told the Metro. “I’ve done pizza deliveries. I know the jobs, and I know what it feels like when everyone else is getting into real estate when you can’t.”

If the project is approved by Surrey city council, the cheapest monthly rent for the Balance Condos homes – 60 per cent of which would be under 305-square-feet – is expected to be around $600.
