futuristicbuildingdesign On first glance, this building looks like something out of The Jetsons, but the Vertical and Horizontal Farm Tower by Kevin Chu is actually an award winning conceptual design.

According to Chu, the building was inspired by “Wings Structure, Japanese Transformer Robots, Articles on why farming is dying but a rebirth is necessary, Aeronautical Engineering, Next Generation Sustainable Energy Methods.” We’re not exactly sure what all that means, but it must be good. The design recently won a trophy in the annual A’ Design Award and Competition.

Functionally, the tower is supposed to be a farming and crop distributing tower and includes features such as solar helium balloons, transparent wing canopies, and storage cocoons.

While we’re not clear on how all these things would work, it’s hard not to stare at the stunning renderings.

If this is what the future looks like, we can’t wait to get there.

This handy diagram helps outline the building’s different parts.

The building certainly adds flare to the London skyline.
