Today, we bring you the next big thing in luxury homes: a man-made floating island!

While the concept of a floating island certainly isn’t new, this $6.5 million residence is definitely unique.

The island measures 66 by 121 feet. While it has no engine, it can still be towed anywhere its owners choose.

According to an article in Yahoo News, Hungarian born entrepreneur Gabor Orsos says that “the interest has been massive from all over the world, from Australia, China, the United States. We have already had the first pre-orders and we have some potential buyers coming from Australia next week.”

According to the article, the islands (apparently, there is more than one) are self sufficient and environmentally friendly, with solar panels and wind generators providing power.

The catch? No islands have been built yet. But Orsos assures potential buyers that the first products can be ready in 18 months to two years.

We’re not sure that floating islands are going to be big competitors for luxury condos, but we still think the concept is pretty cool.
