residencesatrcmi The weather on Saturday afternoon could not have been better for a cornerstone unveiling ceremony, especially one that featured the Governor General of Canada, a marching band and a hundred strong Honour Guard.

The Royal Canadian Military Institute and Tribute Communities unveiled the cornerstone of The Residences at RCMI on University Avenue in the late afternoon on Saturday, June 9th.

Governor General David Johnston arrived at the ceremony to perform the official unveiling of the cornerstone which was placed at the base of the 42 storey tower. For those unfamiliar with the project, The Residences of RCMI preserves the best original features of the RCMI headquarters within its lower six floors.

The architectural integrity of the historic building had been compromised over the years through expansion and renovation. The Zeidler Partnership, a renowned architecture firm, and Andrea Kantleberg, a top Green designer have worked to reincorporate the building’s original facade into the rebuilt entranceway. It’s truly an amazing project that blends history with modern condo design.
