Daniels unveils new public art installation at the entrance of Festival Tower [PICS]
May 3, 2012
The BuzzHomies hightailed it over to Daniels‘ Festival Tower today to scope out a public art unveiling this morning and boy, are we ever glad we did.
Why so glad? Well, the event was catered by Oliver & Bonacini, who provided some satisfying and delectable late-morning eats to the crowd that assembled to see the unveiling.
We were also wowed by the sculpture created by Canadian artist James Carl. “Things end” now sits at the northwest corner of King and John in front of Festival Tower‘s entrance.
City Councillor Adam Vaughan was on hand for the event, speaking to the crowd about the genesis of the John Street Cultural Corridor and how the new public art installation will play an important part in realizing his vision for John.
Check out our pics of the unveiling below!
Niall Haggart, Executive VP of The Daniels Corporation spoke about the public art initiative and introduced Adam Vaughan.
Councillor Adam Vaughan described the vitality of public art and his excitement in seeing Toronto grow and flourish.
Artist James Carl had a long list of thank you's which included a shout out to Daniels and the City of Toronto. Carl's work has been displayed across Canada, the US, Europe and China. This guy is the real deal!
And there it is! "Things end" is unveiled to the crowd at Festival Tower. The sculpture weighs 1400 pounds and is modeled after a rubber band.
Time to mug for the cameras with the sculpture.
