Last week the judges had their say, and we’re happy to learn that the winner is Mike Leung, co-founder of Chinatown’s Harvest Community Foods.
The judges were impressed by Leung’s dedication to the community and his quest to put the “local” back into local foods by creating a grocery store/café.
Such a cool contest can only come from an equally cool project like The Flats.
Built for an infill site only 25 feet wide, the folks behind the project had to get creative. With a focus on common space and inventive design, The Flats has a deceptively spacious feel and awesome style that blends Asian heritage and 21st Century design.
“Living here and building in Chinatown makes you realize that it’s the grassroots community players that make Chinatown so special. We’re thrilled to announce that Mike Leung is the Heart of Chinatown winner, and couldn’t be happier to highlight his involvement in the neighborhood, as well as commit the $2,000 prize to the Union Gospel Mission.” says Brian Roche, longtime Strathcona resident and part of the development team behind The Flats on Georgia.
Congratulations to Mike Leung!
