The Hastings North Business Improvement Association has renamed Vancouver’s East Hastings district as the city’s new East Village.
The freshly monikered neighbourhood spans Hastings St. from Commercial Drive to Renfrew, totalling 12 blocks with countless restaurants and business that, along with the business association, wants the area to get some love and respect from residents and visitors.
“There’s certainly a stigma with saying you’re on East Hastings. People sometimes react to East Vancouver without realizing there’s this eclectic bunch of neighbourhoods,” said BIA executive director Patricia Barnes to CTVBC.
The new name only applies to Hasting Street proper, and won’t infringe on other existing neighbourhoods, like Hastings-Sunrise.
Street banners will hit the streets in April, and so will plans to generate buzz for the new name for this vintage neighbourhood.
What’s your take on the catchy new moniker?
