We’ve heard a lot about the “new Yorkville” neighbourhood lately and decided that it demanded further investigation.

It will be tough for any area to displace Yorkville as Toronto’s historic go-to place for classiness, but it seems as if the Entertainment District may be giving it a run for its money.

New park spaces, hot entertainment venues, swanky shopping and restaurants, it sounds like the Entertainment District has the right stuff. Oh, and it’s also got some hot developments on the go. Like what? Like The Mercer, for example.

The 33 storey condo project by Beaverhall Homes and Graywood Developments is situated at John and Mercer Streets and is only moments from all the awesome amenities we just mentioned.

Sales at The Mercer have been sailing along quite speedily and construction is slated to begin soon. You know what that means right? It means that time is of the essence if you want to purchase at pre-construction prices.

The Mercer has studio, one-bedroom, one bedroom + den, two bedroom and three bedroom designs starting from the low $300,000s. Unit sizes range from 363 to 1,133 square feet.

But now, back to the question at hand. Can the area that The Mercer will call home — the Entertainment District — truly lay claim to the title of the new Yorkville? It’s a tough question. John Street is really living up to its “cultural corridor” title with new street furniture and public art enhancing the vibe while a new, hip and classy cafe or restaurant seems to open up every week in the ‘hood.

We guess that time will tell, but we can say that the Entertainment District sure is well-positioned to embody the uber-classiness that characterizes Yorkville.
