It’s no secret that the former Libyan dictator, Moammar Gadhafi amassed an incredible amount of wealth during his rule, but not a lot of folks know where it was being spent.

It might come as a surprise that one of Gadhafi’s sons owns a luxurious condo in Toronto. According to Ontario property records, Saadi Gadhafi acquired a $1.55 million suite at 10 Navy Wharf Ct., near Front Street and Spadina, in May 2008.

The Toronto Star reports that Saadi Gadhafi is a former pro soccer player who at one point employed Argentinian superstar Diego Maradona and Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson as his personal trainers.

While he’s known for his expensive taste and lavish lifestyle, he also commanded Libyan soldiers during the battle that would eventually lead to the ouster of his father’s regime.

Speaking with The Star, Amal Abuzgaya, a spokewoman for the Canadian Libyan Council, said: “I suspect that if there was this one property it’s likely that there are others because several of his sons have been known to come to Canada — in Montreal in particular and Toronto.”

Abuzgaya said that there should be a Canadian official tasked with looking for Gadhafi family assets that may have been overlooked.

This is crazy stuff! Who would have thought…
