A big shout-out to The Atlantic Cities for uncovering this archival footage shot in 1937 by Chevrolet.

The film teaches American drivers how to safely obey traffic lights as, way back in the day, there was no national standard that governed how they should work. Green didn’t always mean go and some cities had four or two colours instead of three.

The video might make you laugh, but we can think of a few drivers who should probably watch this while taking notes, we’re not 100 per cent sure if they’re getting the whole red-means-stop system.
(Sorry for the 15 second Chevron ad!)
