The City of Burnaby recently gave the thumbs up to what Intracorp feels will be “downtown heart” of Metrotown. The building will be named MetroPlace and will reach up 46-storeys at the intersection of Beresford Street and Telford Avenue.

Rare for the area, MetroPlace will combine increased density in the form of a tower rising from a dynamic podium that will have five-storey townhomes as well as Robson-style retail and downtown Van-style hustle and bustle.

“This is a shared vision, but more than anything it was Burnaby’s vision for Beresford Street and for our site,” says Maurice Pez, Intracorp’s senior vice-president of development. “It’s going to make an exciting addition to Burnaby’s Metrotown Centre plan.”

The amenity list is classic West Coast-cool and includes a green roof over the commercial area, outdoor barbecues, a two-storey fitness studio, a enclosed Zen garden and 360-degree views. It seems as like there’s a focus on value at MetroPlace (one bedrooms start in the $250,000s) but spiffy specifications, like German Eggersmann cabinets are also available.

Sales begin tomorrow (April, 9), so Burnaby-dwellers, take note!
