His name is Carlos Slim Helu and he is the world’s richest man according to Forbes’ richest people list, for the second year in a row.
In the past year Slim earned $20.5 billion, bringing his total fortune to about $74 Billion. He also picked up a mansion on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. His new home is called the Duke Semans Mansion and Slim’s $44 million payment for the property makes it Manhattan’s highest priced residential sale of the year.
The mansion had belonged to former taxi driver turned real estate mogul Tamir Sapir (America’s billionaire cabbie). Sapir listed the property in early 2010 for $50 million – he obviously took a bit of a haircut on the price. The 20,000 square foot mansion, built in 1901, is considered the highest-priced townhouse in Manhattan.
