If you’re into big box retail and live in Toronto you’ll be glad to know that U.S. discount clothing giant Marshalls is setting up shop in your city.

We recently wrote about how US Retail has set their sights on Canada and its now confirmed by the Toronto Star that one of Marshalls first GTA stores to open next year will be in the former spot of Circa nightclub.

Circa was a high-profile club with 50,000 square feet of space and guest appearances by hip hop artists Kanye West and 50 Cent. It closed just three years after it opened.

“We have re-leased it to a Marshalls,” said RioCan CEO Ed Sonshine about the former nightclub space on John St. between King and Richmond St.

Marshalls, a chain of about 750 American department stores owned by TJX Companies, may be summed up by its tagline, “NEVER PAY FULL PRICE FOR FABULOUS.”

According to the Toronto Star:

The first three Marshalls are set to open next spring, one at Warden and Eglinton, one at the Colossus Centre at Highways 407 and 400, and one in the Durham Centre in Ajax, he said.

The store in the former Circa club will not open until later in 2011.

Marshalls is similar to Winners in that it carries mainly off-price brand name clothing and housewares. In the U.S., Marshalls differentiates itself from its sister chain, TJ Maxx, by stocking more family footwear, more junior styles and more men’s fashions.
Some TO residents are pretty excited about the opening. On user, Pee, wrote:

YES!! This is great news, lets just ensure they bring the same low prices and quality stuff to Toronto. (Think 800 thread counts sheets @ usd$49.99!)

I guess you just can’t go wrong with Fabulous
