In southern Ontario, quaint, downtown areas have been struggling in the face of urban development taking place outside traditional cores.
Markham’s historic downtown, however, is bucking the trend and is set for a huge revitalization with 68 Main Street [map].
The Sierra Building Group‘s new 143-unit condominium has been designed to invigorate the pedestrian friendly streets and will include a private piazza-style Old World courtyard with cobblestone walkway and pergola, as well as 13, 000 square feet of new retail space for cafes, shops and restaurants.
68 Main intends to bring its own faux-historic charm to the strip; materials such as brick and stone will be used to complement downtown Markham’s 19th century buildings, interlocking brick sidewalks and gaslight lamps.
The section of the building that fronts onto Main Street will rise only four storeys, while the section that is set back from the street will rise six storeys–serving to accommodate a fair number of units, but not overwhelm other buildings in the area.
If you have a need to jot outside Markham, there is a GO Station a five-minute walk away, and other amenities like the Markham Stouffville Hospital, are just a short drive away.
Access to green spaces are hot on the top of developers’ minds, and Sierra Group is no different. 68 Main features a landscaped rooftop terrace with Japanese-inspired gardens, gas BBQ stations and relaxing water features. Rogue Valley Park is close by as well, great for soaking up some fresh air.
And the building is green too–constructed to LEED standards, and also includes auto-share vehicles.
As BuzzBuzzHome mentioned before, Markham Village is an inviting and friendly lil’ area that is eagerly anticipating the action that will be brought by 68 Main. And we think they will fit in just fine!
Also, 68 Main is inviting you to stop into their presentation centre during the Markham Santa Claus parade on November 27th, and indulge in their fresh coffee and refreshments! Sounds nice!
