Waterfront Toronto announced the winning proponent today who were chosen to develop the amazing piece of land on the East Bayfront, Bayside.
Congratulations to Hines on putting forward the winning bid and getting the fantastic opportunity to develop this much sought after piece of land!
After what was called an ‘extensive competitive selection process’, Hines was chosen over 3 other proponents who submitted plans for this 10 acre mixed-use site.
We have been following the progress of the Bayside site closely for quite some time now and have posted previous stories (which you can read here and here) on our concern at the lack of public involvement in what is a city owned piece of land which will have a lasting and very evident effect on the lives of many Torontonians for years to come.
We still maintain that the public should have seen the options that were put forward to Waterfront Toronto and are disappointed that we will most likely never get to see what the alternatives for the site were.
Or maybe we will? Now that the process is almost complete ( the plans go to the next Council meeting on August 25th for approval) why not show us the other proponents plans?
There has been much debate in the industry over this site so hopefully Waterfront Toronto will settle the issue and release the designs to the public.
Once again, congratulations to Hines on being selected. We are looking forward to learning more about the plans and very much hope that this will be a great addition to the city of Toronto.
