The bedbugs are back, and have taken over New York. It is only a matter of time before they take over the major Canadian Cities. Heck, it is only a matter of time before we start to see them as real-estate deal-killers.

A recent poll by the Daily News-Marist says that 1 in 10 New York residents have battled with bedbugs, but it is probably worse because only 50 per cent of the population have a reaction to them.

From swanky penthouses to lofts to coops to the CNN’s headquarters, no one is safe. Well, that might not be accurate. In fact, if you make less than $50,000 per year, or you are a Democrat, then you are more at risk. According to the New York Daily News:

“But money makes a difference: Twice as many people who made less than $50,000 a year had bedbugs, compared with those with higher incomes. Only 2% of Republicans had bedbugs, while 12% of Democrats did.”

They were nearly eradicated by DDT in the 1940s, but is appears that they are now extra pesticide resistant. D’oh. Maybe it is time to bring back DDT?

Think your area may have bedbugs? Check out the BedBug Registry maps for New York, San Fran, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Toronto or Vancouver.

By the way, as mentioned above, CNN was infested. Yup.. the bugs are not just for residential dwellings, but are also infesting commercial and retail outlets such as Abercrimbie and Fitch and Victoria’s Secret. Yikes!
