Toronto Metrolinx exercised an option to purchase 182 streetcars from Bombardier. They retained an option to purchase 112 more. What a fantastic Canadian business transaction. And they’re being assembled in Thunder Bay.

They’ll be ready between 2013 and 2020 (pretty long window for production, but I guess they’re probably kinda complicated to build).

But they’re gonna be awesome! It’s worth the wait. They’ll be able to hold more than 280 passengers. And it’ll make Toronto more like Europe (which seems to be a trend lately…you can now bring drinks to your seat at the Princess of Wales theatre too!).

Similar streetcars are used in Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Turkey, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy and Germany. Toronto Star

I can’t wait. But I guess I’ll have to. Cool, man.
