“We’re the best-performing centre in Canada today in terms of sales per square footage. And it’s in the top five in North America. It’s not because the centre is not performing well…It’s because we started out setting the bar higher and we want it to stay that way.”
Eaton Centre reveals renderings: china plates in the food court?!?!
June 18, 2010
A few days ago I wrote a post about a $120 million facelift of the Eaton Centre. But I couldn’t tell you what was going to be changing. Now I can!
There’s going to be a new lighting sculpture that hangs from the glass ceiling we all know and love. The whole mall will be lighter and airier. The new food court will feature real china plates. That part I think might be a tad disastrous. I can see the shattered plates all over that beautiful floor already.
And the VP of development at Cadillac Fairview Corp. Ltd., the owner of the Eaton Centre, was quick to explain that the renovation was not spurred by poor performance of the shopping centre.
According to the Toronto Star:
That’s good. I’m glad that’s why. Anyway, the renovations will begin July 1 and take about 18 months or so. But it’ll be worth it.
