Look out Zillow! A patent infringement lawsuit has been filed, which will affect the real-estate giants Zestimates product.

First American CoreLogic Inc. can’t take other using their patent for their 1994 Automated Valuation Model, and are taking action. Zillow was also sued in March by SmarterAgent for an alleged patent infringement in its mobile app.

The filing requests a jury trial and seeks damages for profits lost, and royalty payments for the patent, as well as attorneys fees and costs.

Who is being sued by First American CoreLogic, Inc. According to the suit:

– FISERV, INC.,
– INTELLIREAL, LLC,
– INTERTHINX, INC.
– LENDER PROCESSING SERVICES, INC.,
– PRECISION APPRAISAL SERVICES, INC.,
– REAL DATA, INC.,
– REALEC TECHNOLOGIES, INC.,
– ZILLOW, INC.,

Those being sued are being asked to stop using the AVM technology and pay damages.

It will be interesting to monitor this suit, but extremely interesting to see how Zillow handles it, is Zestimates are a large part of their public appeal. It would be hard to think of Zillow doing as well as they do without the Zestimates.
