So you’re having an open house. You leave all your nice stuff out so people can see what a great place this could be to live, right? WRONG! Thieves are on the prowl, mainly in the Langley Vancouver area, targeting open houses.
And the industry is shocked! One agent who has been in real estate for 26 years says:
“I’ve never had or heard of this kind of incident where people are actually taking stuff away from the home” CBC News
Pretty bold move if you ask me. Coming into someone’s home where an agent is trying to be incredibly polite (albeit, to sell you the home) and taking their possessions!
Well, I guess that’s what it’s come to. The RCMP is advising the following actions: hide valuables and medications, consider the use of a safety deposit box until your home is sold, if your home has many entrances ask your agent to bring other agents as well (or maybe some bouncers!), put away any documentation with sensitive information (credit card bills etc.), and remove photos and anything that might identify you.
