What is going on with Toronto’s East Bayfront? I have heard amazing plans, but haven’t read anything about it in ages (nor seen progress onsite).

If you don’t know where this is, check out the map below. As you can see, this is a prime piece of Toronto waterfront, aching for development.
With construction happening at the Sherbourne Park, I can only imagine that things are in the works for the rest of the project. Take a walk around the site below to orientate yourself.
However, while driving by this morning I was remembered seeing that there is an RFP out for the development of these prime prime prime lands. Check out the image below of the parking lot, as seen this morning.

What is planned? According to the East Bayfront website:

East Bayfront will become an animated downtown neighbourhood where people are drawn to live, work and play. Upon full build-out, East Bayfront will include 6,000 residential units and 230,000 m2 (2.5 million sq. ft.) of commercial and employment space.

So what is the hold up?? Developers need more land and our growing population needs more homes.

Does anyone know what’s going on?
