A broker from Detroit, Joy Santiago, uses a plethora of online marketing tricks to increase online visibility and, ultimately, drive sales. She videotapes views of the property to put on YouTube, creates Facebook pages, tweets about it and lists the property on just about any real estate listing site she can find (i.e. Zillow, Trulia).

Another agent, Elyse Van Houzen, claims that she has sold homes to old friends by being reunited on Facebook. She claims that “[Facebook] is probably the best thing to happen to real estate agents.”

Yet another agent says that he has one marketing manager who spends all day, everyday posting on various listing sites.

A recent survey by the National Association of Realtors in the US found that 35% use professional networking sites and 14% plan to begin using online marketing in their business.

And it’s no wonder! It’s a free way to push listings onto consumers rather than waiting for them to come to the agent. Some agents are even dropping print ads altogether (which saves a bundle). It’s a real estate revolution. Don’t be left behind!
