Sales in Calgary were up 37.4% this February over February 2009. The average sale price also rose 5.2% during the same period to $389,388. From January, though, the average price was down from its peak of $397,518.
The Calgary housing market wasn’t the lone recipient of the boost in numbers. Province-wide, Alberta home sales increased 26.3% and the average price rose 5.1%.
CREA said that on a national level sales activity has slowed while new listings continue to rise. The association said seasonally-adjusted national home sales, edged down 1.5 per cent from January. Calgary Herald
CREA also speculated that the decline could be caused by inflated January numbers due to the Olympics.
