As skiers fly down Whistler’s slopes, a leading U.S. resort company is making a play for ownership control of the prized Whistler Blackcomb mountain, site of the Olympic ski events.

Colorado’s Vail Resorts Inc. headlines a list of several bidders for the property, according to financial industry sources, while the current owner, private equity group Fortress Investment Group LLC, (FIG-N4.190.092.20%) vies to keep control of the resort and troubled parent Intrawest Holdings.
