CityCenter, the largest development in the history of Vegas, is weeks away from opening. The project consists of 17 million sq ft, six towers, three hotels and a shopping mall and is under construction by MGM Mirage and Dubai World on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada.

The massive development has been plagued with difficulties, including deaths, since its start. Dubai World sued partner MGM Mirage for breach of contract although the partners then agreed to set terms to see the project through to completion. Six workers have been killed on the construction site since work began. On June 3, 2008 construction workers shut down construction in a protest over safety conditions.

On Oct 21, 2009 the Wall Street Journal reported that billionaire investor and MGM Mirage’s biggest shareholder Kirk Kerkorian is “exploring alternatives to his investment in the company on the same day the casino giant announced a $955 million write-down on the value of its City Center construction project.
CityCenter is scheduled to open on December 16, 2009. Check out the project website here.
