Looking for a new home in Calgary? You can now learn all about properties on the market via text message before even contacting an agent… via text message.

According to the Calgary Sun:

A new technology called TxT2Look has recently been adopted by the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) and allows realtors to buy codes that can be assigned information about specific properties.

The codes are then posted on For Sale signs on clients’ properties and shoppers driving by can text the number to get information about the price and size of the home and receive a link to further information.

Seems like an ancient and limited technology. Text messaging was so…. 2003. Further, you are limited in words, texting costs money, and you can not send pictures. I am curious to know what information is being put in these texts.

With Blackberrys and iPhones, why not just post real information with pictures online. Think it is easier to quickly text a 4 digit number than remember the address for when you get home? Then text the address to yourself, or jot down the address.
