The value of building permits issued in Edmonton during July rose 23 per cent, Statistics Canada said Tuesday.
It was the highlight of a month that saw the value of permits taken out by contractors provincewide fall 10.9 per cent to $753.5 million compared to June.
In Edmonton, $284.3 million of construction permits were issued, up from $231 million in June, seasonally adjusted statistics show.
By comparison, Calgary’s value of permits dropped nearly 38 per cent to $264.5 million in July from $424.1 million in June.
“The value of building permits issued is a good gauge of how construction activity will fare in the months ahead,” said ATB senior economist Todd Hirsch.
