SIR Stanley is not the first millionaire to splash his cash to create his own golf course.
Sir Terry Matthews: The richest man in Wales made his money by owning a string of telecoms companies. He bought the old Celtic Manor in 1980, converting it into a four-star hotel, and in 1991 announced his plans to create a 1,400-acre, £100m-hotel and three championship golf courses, which will play host to next year’s 2010 Ryder Cup.
Donald Trump: The American property magnate, pictured, who is worth $1.6bn, is battling to build a £1bn coastal golf course north of Aberdeen.
Locals living in the area, which includes delicate sand dune eco-systems have signed a 500-name petition against it. But Trump has won crucial outline planning permission.
