Developers pressing ahead in Brentwood

City Hall’s vision of dense developments around suburban LRT stations is moving ahead, but at a slower and often more scaled-back pace than what last year had some residents and aldermen fearing concrete canyons that would overwhelm existing neighbourhoods.
As part of council’s attempts to limit sprawl, the city targeted six station areas to encourage thousands of residences, offices and shops at vibrant and pedestrian-friendly transit oriented developments– a model popular in cities worldwide.
But this year, the city has entirely shelved such a project around Lions Park station and will focus on only Motel Village around Banff Trail LRT, rather than around McMahon Stadium and nearby houses.
