The Ontario government plans to make some items tax-exempt to offset the impact of a harmonized sales tax to be announced in today’s provincial budget, the Globe and Mail reported, citing unidentified government workers.

The items exempted include diapers, children’s clothing and new homes that cost less than C$400,000 ($326,158), the newspaper said.

The provincial government will announce plans today to blend the 8 percent Ontario sales tax with the 5 percent federal goods and services tax to reduce costs for businesses, the Globe reported.
